If the caliper reaches its slot limit after a wheel refit, correct any wheel-seating error before adjusting the brake again. After a brake or rotor swap, verify the required adapter and mounting hardware instead. If wheel position, parts and pad setup are correct but alignment is still impossible, have the mounts inspected. Do not extend the slots to gain room.
Rule Out a Shifted Wheel or Rotor
The rotor moves with the wheel, so a wheel sitting incorrectly changes where the brake needs to line up. Switch the bike off, let the brake cool and check the axle's seating and retention. Follow the actual axle instructions for your electric bike; do not rearrange washers to move the rotor sideways.
A loose or tilted wheel needs its installation corrected before riding. If you cannot confirm the hardware arrangement, have a technician check it rather than tightening unfamiliar parts by feel.
With the bike safely supported and the wheel installed, observe the rotor during a slow hand spin, keeping fingers clear. A rotor that sweeps sideways or shifts with hub play is not a stable reference for alignment. Correct that problem first; moving the caliper cannot straighten a bent rotor.
Check What Is Using Up the Adjustment
Confirm that the limit is the caliper's sideways mounting travel, not a pad-adjuster screw reaching its stop. Pad clearance and caliper placement are related but different adjustments.
If parts were changed, compare the fitted rotor, caliper, adapter and mounting hardware with the specified combination. Keep the old part identification or replacement packaging. An adapter that bolts on is not automatically the right adapter for that rotor and mount.
Rotor diameter and adapter choice also affect where the pads meet the braking track. That height relationship is separate from sideways centering. Check the prescribed orientation and hardware positions rather than trying to solve either problem with spare washers.
Some brakes require shaped alignment washers; others do not. Keep specified washers in their intended locations, and do not add them to a system that was not designed for them. On mechanical brakes, also verify the required pad-clearance setup before concluding that the mount is wrong.
Know When the Mount Needs Measuring
If the correct setup still cannot put the caliper parallel to the rotor within its available travel, a shop should check the mount's position and whether its faces are square to the rotor. Reaching the slot's end alone does not prove a bent frame.
Bring the part details and photos showing the slot positions and contact, and explain what changed before the rubbing began. Mount facing may be appropriate in some cases, but only after inspection and confirmation that the work is suitable for that frame or fork. Do not file the slots or mounting faces yourself.
Before riding, the brake needs secure fastening and verified operation, not just a quiet wheel spin. For a mechanical setup, return to regular mechanical disc brake maintenance once the fitting problem is resolved.
