You fix a flat, put the wheel back, and now the tire rises and falls every time it turns. Don't assume you've bent the rim, but don't ride it hoping the tire will settle either. First, separate what the rim is doing from how the tire sits on it.
Watch the Rim, Not Just the Tread
On an electric bike, switch the power off. Support the bike securely with the affected wheel clear of the ground, then turn it slowly by hand. Don't use the throttle or balance the bike precariously to get a view.
If the tire is lifting off the rim or any inner tube is visible, release the air before continuing. That needs correction, not another spin.
Watch the rim's outer edge against a stationary reference, such as a truing stand's indicator, positioned clear of moving parts. You're looking for the edge moving toward and away from the hub, not just sideways. This up-and-down variation is radial runout. Keep fingers and loose objects away from spokes and the brake rotor.
If the rim itself rises and falls, have the wheel checked. If it looks steady while the tire hops, look more closely at tire seating. Tread movement alone cannot tell you the rim is bent.
Compare the Bead Line on Both Sides
Many tires have a small molded line just above the rim. Follow the gap between that line and the rim through a full turn, on both sides. Don't use printed logos or tread blocks as the seating reference.
A line that disappears behind the rim in one spot, or climbs noticeably higher elsewhere, points to uneven seating. Check near the valve too, but don't assume the valve caused it just because the hop appears there.
A localized casing bulge, exposed fabric, or torn bead is different. Stop using that tire and have the damage assessed; don't try to massage a structural defect into shape.
Reseat Only an Undamaged, Compatible Tire
Fully deflate before loosening the bead. Confirm that the tire size and construction are approved for the rim. With a tube, check that none is caught beneath the bead, including around the valve. Check for rim tape interfering with the bead seat without stripping away needed rim protection.
Follow the tire maker's centering procedure. Use only an approved mounting lubricant if needed, not oil or grease. Don't use heat, sharp tools, or pressure beyond the applicable tire and rim limits to force a stubborn section outward.
Begin inflation cautiously and recheck both bead lines. If a section lifts or the tube appears, stop and deflate. Continue to the recommended riding pressure only after seating is correct.
If It Still Hops, Stop Repeating the Same Fix
Even bead lines with a persistent hop need closer inspection of the tire and rim. A steady-looking rim is not proof that every part is sound. Don't start adjusting spokes to compensate for tire movement.
