Tern Vektron P10 vs Macfox M16: Fold the Bike or Keep the Ride Low?

Tern Vektron P10 is the more useful starting point when the bike must fold for a car trunk or indoor storage. Macfox M16 is more interesting when the bike can stay assembled and you want a low-seated ride with throttle assistance. They are both small-wheel e-bikes, but the everyday task that makes each appealing is different.

The space after the ride

Tern lists the US Gen 4 Vektron P10's folded dimensions at approximately 16.1 x 33.9 x 26.8 inches. Folding the frame reduces its length enough to change where it can go: a storage compartment or car area that cannot accept a full-length bicycle may accept the folded package. It can also roll while folded, which is helpful when the next part of the journey is on foot.

That is a specific benefit when you regularly combine riding and driving. It is less valuable if the bike has a permanent, ground-level parking space. Folding and unfolding are then extra steps rather than a solution to a daily obstacle.

M16 remains 56 inches long when parked. For a shed or garage with that much room, its simple routine is to roll it out and ride. Its smaller 16-inch wheels do not make the frame fold or guarantee that it will fit a particular trunk. Tern's ability to change its stored shape is the important distinction.

Two different reasons to choose a small bike

Vektron P10 uses 20-inch wheels, a Bosch Performance mid-drive rated at 65Nm, and a ten-speed Shimano Deore drivetrain. Its adjustable handlebar and saddle accommodate a broad range of riders. The small wheels and folding joints therefore do not require a low bench-style riding position: you can set it up for regular bicycle pedaling.

The gearing is useful when the ride includes a climb followed by faster flat sections. You can change pedal cadence without using the assistance setting as your only way to manage effort. The mid-drive supplies power through the chosen gear, making gear selection part of the riding experience.

The Macfox M16 electric bike uses a 28.7-inch-high long seat, 16 x 4.0-inch tires, and front suspension. Its 500W rear-hub motor can be operated through a thumb throttle as well as pedal assistance. For riders whose proportions suit the lower seat, the appeal is a comfortable, accessible-feeling ride with the option to rest the legs between stops.

M16 has a single-speed chain drive. That makes the controls straightforward, while Vektron offers more choice over the pedal rhythm. The question is whether you want a small bike that retains the adjustments of a geared bicycle, or a lower long-seat ride with direct motor control.

What goes with you on an outing?

Vektron P10's rack is rated for 27kg. It gives compatible luggage a useful home on trips where you would otherwise wear a backpack. The rack also forms part of the bike's practical transport and parking arrangement. A rider using the bike for both errands and car-assisted trips may get value from it every week.

Both bikes have removable batteries: Tern supplies 400Wh and M16 has 499Wh. You can bring either battery to a suitable charging location without bringing the entire bike there. The capacity difference is less important than folding space if fitting the bike into your car is the requirement that makes the trip possible at all.

For a compact electric bike, choose Vektron P10 when folding and geared pedaling solve recurring needs. Choose M16 when you have room to park it whole and prefer its low seat, front suspension, and throttle-assisted riding. Small wheels are the common feature; the way the bike fits into your day is the deciding one.
