Seller Offers a Substitute E-Bike: Accept or Decline Before Shipping?

Accept a substitute e-bike only if the exact replacement suits your needs and you agree to the revised order terms. The same price or a larger motor does not automatically make it an acceptable swap. For covered U.S. online orders, a seller needs your prior express agreement before sending materially different merchandise.

Compare the Actual Offer With Your Order

Diagram comparing the original order with the exact proposed replacement and included equipment.

Ask for the replacement's exact name, color, configuration, and included equipment. "An upgrade" is not enough information to decide. Put the original order beside the proposed replacement and identify what would actually change.

For an electric bike order, compare the named replacement with your order confirmation. Have the seller confirm any difference between the current listing and the particular bike they plan to ship. Do not assume a pictured accessory is included.

Keep Your Original Deal-Breakers

Suppose you chose the original bike because you could comfortably get on it and move it into storage. A replacement that is harder to handle may be a worse choice for you, even if its headline specifications sound better.

Check the things that made the original purchase workable: fit, controls, storage space, transport needs, and intended riding. You do not need a fresh comparison of every bike on the market. You need to know whether this particular change breaks an important requirement.

Separate an inconvenience from a deal-breaker. A different finish might be acceptable to one buyer and unacceptable to another. The seller's preference for clearing an available bike does not decide that question for you.

Agree to the Revised Order, Not a Vague Swap

Before accepting, confirm the exact item, any price difference, and the revised shipping commitment in writing. Ask which warranty and return terms apply. A substitute does not automatically create a free exchange later, a longer return period, or a different warranty start date.

For a Macfox order, contact our support team or email support@macfoxbike.com to settle unclear terms before dispatch. A useful acceptance identifies the specific replacement and agreed price, rather than simply saying "sure" to an earlier message containing several options.

Decline the Substitute Clearly

Say that you do not authorize the replacement. Then ask what happens to the original order: can it still be fulfilled, are you being asked to wait, or can the unshipped order be canceled under the applicable terms and rules?

Those are separate decisions. Agreeing to a shipping delay is not the same as agreeing to a different bike. Likewise, rejecting the substitute does not by itself tell the seller whether you want to keep waiting for the original purchase.

Keep the final order confirmation. It should describe the bike and terms you actually accepted, not leave an unresolved choice buried in a support conversation.
