Your wheel spins without a visible wobble, yet the rim seems closer to one side of the frame. Does that mean it needs more spoke adjustment? Not necessarily. A wheel can run true and still be positioned incorrectly. Before reaching for a spoke wrench, separate a misleading visual reference from an installation problem or a wheel that needs its dish checked.
Check the Rim, Not the Fender
Switch the power off. If you can support the bike securely with the wheel clear of the ground, turn it slowly by hand. Keep fingers clear of the spokes and brake rotor; don't use motor power for this check.
Watch the rim edge through a complete revolution, not just the tread. If the rim moves side to side, there is lateral runout. If the rim stays steady while the tire wanders, the tire needs closer inspection. Neither observation calls for blindly moving the whole rim sideways.
If the rim stays consistently to one side, note that separately. A bent fender or an asymmetrically shaped frame tube can mislead you. Unequal-looking gaps are a clue, not a measurement of wheel dish or proof that the frame is bent.
Rule Out Installation First
Was the wheel recently removed? Look at both axle mounting points and compare their seating with the model's installation instructions. Check that the required hardware is present and arranged correctly. A wheel that is not properly seated needs its installation corrected before anyone adjusts spokes.
On an electric bike with a hub motor, axle washers and anti-rotation hardware have specific jobs. Don't add, remove, or swap them just to make the tire look centered. Don't reverse the motor wheel in the frame as a test; its cable, brake, and drivetrain layout are not interchangeable.
If you cannot confirm the mounting arrangement, let a qualified technician handle it. Do not ride with insecure axle hardware, tire-to-frame contact, damaged mounting points, or a strained motor cable. Correct fastening follows the actual axle instructions, not a universal torque value.
Check the Intended Position Before Changing Spokes
Wheel dish describes the rim's sideways position relative to the hub's mounting faces. It is a separate check from whether the rim runs straight. Some frame and wheel systems deliberately use an offset build, so don't assume every rim must sit exactly halfway between those faces. Confirm the intended setup for the frame, fork, and wheel in question.
If installation is correct but the position still looks wrong, ask a wheel mechanic to measure dish against that specification and check frame or fork alignment. A dishing gauge references the rim and hub contact surfaces, not the tire. Different spoke angles can also require different tensions on opposite sides; equalizing every spoke is not the goal.
Bring a short hand-spin video and explain whether the problem appeared after wheel removal, spoke work, or an impact.
