The lever is folded shut, but getting it there took almost no effort. Is that enough? With a traditional cam-operated wheel quick release, no: an effortless closing stroke can mean insufficient clamping. Don't ride until the wheel is correctly secured. The lever's position alone does not tell you how firmly it holds.
Make Sure You're Checking a Quick Release
A conventional quick-release skewer has a folding lever at one end and an adjustment nut at the other. Folding the lever operates a cam that creates the clamping force. Some thru axles also have handles, but they do not use this same adjustment procedure. Check your wheel's actual attachment instructions rather than identifying it by the handle alone.
On an electric bike, turn the power off and support the bike securely before checking. Don't open the lever while the wheel is unsupported. If you cannot identify the system or manage the bike safely, have a shop check it.

Adjust the Clamp, Not Just the Lever's Position
First, confirm that the wheel is properly seated in the fork or frame, with the required hardware arranged correctly. Tightening against a crooked or incomplete installation does not make it secure.
For a conventional quick release, release the cam and adjust the opposite nut in small increments as the skewer manufacturer directs. Then fold the lever closed to check the setting. Tightening the adjustment nut increases clamping; loosening it reduces clamping. Simply spinning the lever around like a wing nut is not a substitute for closing the cam.
You should feel meaningful hand resistance during closure, following the skewer's instructions. An effortless swing needs attention, but forcing the lever as hard as possible is not the goal either. There is no universal number of turns or hand-force test for every design. Use your hands only, not pliers, a hammer, or an extension.
Watch what stops the lever. Resistance from the clamp is different from the lever hitting the fork, fender, or brake rotor. It must reach its fully closed position without interference. If another part blocks it, stop and have the installation checked. Don't accept a partly closed lever or weaken the clamp just to tuck it out of the way.
A Wheel That Doesn't Wiggle Still Needs Proper Clamping
Complete the manufacturer's stationary wheel-security check, keeping your hands clear of the rotor. Check seating, lever closure, and brake clearance. A loose wheel fails that check, but a wheel that feels still does not, by itself, prove adequate clamping force. Don't use a test ride to settle the question.
If the lever still closes without resistance, the wheel slips again, or any skewer parts look damaged, stop adjusting and bring the bike to a qualified shop. Tell them whether this started after wheel removal or a hardware change. Correct installation matters more than making the lever look closed.
